Shirley Marie King

Corner Brook, NL

September 10, 1942- March 28, 2024

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Shirley King announce her passing at Corner Brook Long Term Care at the age of 81years. She leaves to mourn her son Donald (Sharon) King, Nanaimo, BC; daughter Lisa (Valerie) King, Corner Brook; sister Mona (Wycliffe) Stratton, Corner Brook; brother Robert (Judy) Collins, Bolton, ON; sisters in law Sylvia Collins, Corner Brook; Norma Rideout, Campbellton and Brenda (Gerald) Piercey, Nova Scotia; special friends Marilyn and Gary  Forward (Alexander and Leah); as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Carl King; parents Frederick and Viola Collins; brother Reginald Collins; parents in law John and Caroline King.

A special thank you to Dr. Robert O’Driscoll for the care you gave our mother over the years but especially during her final days. Shirley spent the past 3 ½ years at Corner Brook Long Term Care on 4 North. The care, compassion and respect she received during this time was endless and allowed her final days to be filled with love and dignity. There are no words to thank you enough.

At Shirley’s request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at Fillatre’s Funeral Home on St. Marks Avenue on Saturday from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.  The funeral service will take place on Sunday, March 31 at 2:00 p.m. from Fillatre’s Funeral Chapel, St. Mark’s Avenue, with Majors Brian and Valerie Wheeler officiating. Internment will be held at Mt Patricia Cemetery in the Salvation Army Section following the funeral service. Flowers are welcome but donations can be made to the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen or NL West SPCA.
