Obituary of Henry Anthony

Please share a memory of Henry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that the family of Henry Anthony announces his passing at the age of eighty-six, on Sunday, March 17th, 2024.

Henry peacefully passed surrounded by family at the Palliative Care Unit in Western Memorial Hospital. Henry is met with loving arms by his son Darren, his first wife Doris, brother Harvey, his brother-in-law Robert, sister-in-law Patricia, and his parents Norman and Mary.

Left to celebrate the life of Henry are his greatest joys, his wife Leila, daughters Sandra (Dennis), Beverley, Carolyn (Laura), sons Hubert, Garry (Karen), Michael, and Paul (Karen), brother Derrick (Sheila) and sister Laura. Henry was a loving grandfather to thirteen, Jamie, Jennifer, Alex, Geoffrey, Timara, Eric, Timothy, Erin, Daniel, Andrew, Laura, Rogan, and Catie. Henry also has three great-grandchildren, Caelin Lee, Tyler, and Maesie.

During his eighty-six years, Henry worked as a teacher and in a distinguished career as a social worker. He was an avid scrabble player and for many seasons an accomplished Captain aboard his sailboat “Garnet Star”, where he sailed in and around the bays and coves of Newfoundland. Henry was a sweet and kind soul, and his memory will live on through those who knew and loved him. To know him was to love him.

The family would like to send a sincere thank you to the staff at the Restorative Care Unit and Palliative Care Unit at Western Memorial Hospital for all of the comfort, care and support they provided.

Visitation will take place Friday March 22nd, at Humber Valley United Church at 1pm with funeral service at 2pm.
