Loretta and family, it was with both a feeling of sadness and gladness that we learned of Allan's Promotion to Glory today. We sorrow with you in your loss but rejoice hat Allan is now with his Lord and Saviour whom he loved and served faithfully from the time he was a young teenager in Musgrave Harbour. We have many fond memories of our association with him and you both over the years. Allan could always bring a smile to us with a word of encouragement or a funny story. Allan and I(John) were session mates at the 101st ICO session in London, England (1984) and during our free days off spent hours touring downtown London, basking in its history. Those were memorable days, especially the lunch breaks in "Granny Lee's Donut Shop". Wonderful memories!
Please be assured of our love and continued prayers.

It was with great sadness that we learned of Major Hicks passing. We have many fond memories of our years working together at the College for Officer Training. Your day became much brighter and better after a conversation with Major Hicks. He was an encourager and always persued the Way of Holiness by reflecting what it meant to be a man of God. He always led by example.
Our prayers are with Major Loretta and family members. Always remember that Major Alan was responsible for leading many souls into a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior and now he is enjoying his eternal reward. "Well done good and faithful servant".

Loretta and Family... My thoughts are with you during these sad days when you have said "good bye" to the one you love dearly. I have fond and happy memories of when you were the Officers at the Citadel in Corner Brook, and I will always remember Allan's smile. On my dad's headstone are carved the words... "to live in the hearts of those you love is not to have died". And my experience is that this is true. As the days pass you will see Allan's love and smile when you least expect it and it will give you peace. My thoughts are with you. Evelyn Reid Harrington

Major Allan Hicks was a remarkable man of God for whom we have tremendous respect and appreciation. He was one of the great warrior Officers of our era. We remember his influence and encouragement during our training days on Adam's Avenue when he was Corps Officer at the Citadel....one gifted communicator and effective worship leader. We will never forget his evening of Praise and Worship on the theme...."Then Sings My Soul"...and a number of people made first time commitments to our Lord Jesus Christ. We have used his material at St. John's Temple and Edmonton Temple and received favourable comments for which we give
God and the Major thanks and praise. His family became a blessed part of our journey since our Cadet days and those summer sermon challenges..especially at Bishop's Falls 1968. May you rest in peace, Major Allan...and know your memory is our keepsake with which we will never part, God has Allan in His keeping, we have him in our hearts. Blessings supreme, Major Loretta, Bob, B, and Cathy.

Major Loretta and family: So sorry to hear of Major Allan's death, but be assured of my thoughts and prayers. Major Allan made a huge impact on my life many years ago, and he will never be forgotten. One song says "it's not what you take when you leave this world behind you, it's what you leave behind you when you go", and Major Allan has left his touch on many lives in a very positive way. I am so glad to have known and loved this very special man. God bless.

Major Loretta & Family,
Thank you for letting me know of Allan's passing. I really appreciated your emails and updates about Major Allan and yourself. I have many wonderful memories from my days at CFOT - Major Allan always had a smile for us and encouraging word. I chuckle too when I think of the time, you both had the cadets over during the blackout...even though the house was full, you both ensured we were all well cared for. I know your heart must be heavy no longer having him around physically, but I know too you are rejoicing knowing that he is in a better place, no more physical illness.
Loretta, as you've often told me...hold dear your memories of your loved one and be assured you are being thought about today and in the days to come.
Sending our love,
Gloria & Mark.

Mrs. Hicks, Cathy, Robert, Allan & families;
My heart is saddened today because a very dear friend has been removed from our circle of friends, But I rejoice because he is now free from pain and at home with the Lord he loved and served! Major Allan Hicks served as our pastor in the early seventies and he encouraged us in our walk with Christ as he taught us much from God's Holy Word. I will never forget his very interesting, passionate and powerful sermons that held us spellbound as he preached with love from God's Word and expressed a deep compassion for the souls of God's people! Not only was he our pastor but for more than forty years we shared a very special friendship and a relationship that made us feel like family! The memories are special. We had lots of fun and as he loved to do, we laughed together. To our children he was like a grandfather and they affectionately called him "Papa"! Today Major Allan and Laurie are renewing their friendship as they hug each other and rejoice in heaven because they are both at home at last and enjoying the awesome presence of their Lord! My love and prayers are with you as I share
in your sorrow, reflect on your joyful memories and wish I could be there to celebrate the life of a wonderful man who will always be alive in my heart. Don't forget that "Many waters cannot quench love"----- not even death!
Love you all

Just a reminder Cathy, that your dad had a true impact on our family. I truly believe we are better people as a family as a result of your dad's devotion to the Ministry. I remember many great heart to hearts with him, and ultimately had the pleasure of him performing the dedication of my baby boy. That was 41 years ago, and I have thought about him many many times since then, especially since the onset of his illness.
Then he gave our family 'you'....another blessing.
So to you, your mom and your family, I wish you God's love through your time of sorrow.
May he bless you all.
Ray,

Mrs Hicks, Cathy, Bob & B, My heart is broken because I can't be with you all as you say your final earthly goodbye to a man who I loved as a father. The four years I lived with you made me the person I am today. I learnt so much about Christian commitment, faithfulness, tithing, love & duty, lessons that have never left me. I know that you are secure in the knowledge that he is with our Lord whom he served so faithfully but I also know that you will miss him. I believe he is more alive now than he has been for the past number of years when that dreadful illness had robbed him of so much. During one of my visits to the Hoyles Home, he wasn't sitting in his usual chair but then I noticed him on his feet & moving his arms as though leading worship. A dvd was playing of a choir singing Josh Groban's "You Lift Me Up" and when I walked up to Major the tears were rolling down his face & he said to me, "It's so beautiful! It's so beautiful!" There are many things we do not know about heaven, but I like to think that even now Major is leading a heavenly choir as they worship around the throne in glory! I love you all & would give the world to be there tomorrow. Be assured that my thoughts & prayers surround you & God will strenghen you all! I love you all! " No eye has seen,no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him" 1Corinthians2:9 Love Always, Marilyn

Dear Loretta,
We think of you today as you walk through this significant change and loss in your life. We share with you the joy of having known Allan and having experienced his spiritual influence on our lives. We thank God for his life and the years of faithful service given to The Salvation Army. We remember with such fondness all the wonderful moments of being with Allan at the Training College - both in the classroom and in the hallways; in corps specialling Sundays and in the van travelling to and from. What a special gentleman he was, always so encouraging and so much fun. We have such deep respect for him as a spiritual leader and friend.
May your own personal faith in God, the memories of your life together, the support of family and friends around you be among the many blessings you now need at this time. We join others in praying for you and your family today.
With warmest regards,

Mrs. Hicks and Family. I was so saddened yesterday when Darryl told me of Major's passing.
He was special and I will never forget him. His love for his Master was evident as was his love
for his congregation, and on top of all this was
his sense of humor. He will be sadly missed, but
we know he is with his Lord and Master and that we
will see him again. Mrs. Hicks, please be assured
of our thoughts and prayers as you and your family
celebrate the life of a True Man Of God.

To Loretta & Family:
So sorry to hear of Allan's passing but rejoice in the fact that he has, truly, been Promoted to Glory and is now in the very presence of the God he loved and served, so faithfully, for so many years. My late husband, Howard, and Allan shared a very special friendship having trained together in the "Shepherd's" session of cadets. Believe me, I understand your pain and sorrow and I pray that the gentle hands of our loving Lord will hold each of you in the palm of His hand. I know there will be great rejoicing in heaven as many happy reunions will take place and, likely, some funny stories shared.
I know your faith will see you through this time of sadness. God's all-sufficient will be yours as you come to terms with life (for the time being) without the physical presence of the one you loved.
God bless you,

Sad to hear about Major's passing. We have been lifting you and your family up in our prayers. Major had influenced many people's lives, we have fond memories of him from being our teacher in college, taught us about Holiness, but not only did he teach us, I believe he lived it. He certainly was a man of God. He is gone ahead of us, gone to our future. One day, we will all meet again, that is a wonderful hope to have, that death is never the end but just the beginning. Dear Treasured Friend,Mrs. Hicks and family
It is with so much sadness that I write this note to you. At a very young age growing up in Grand Bank when you were posted there with your young family, you won the love and respect of the young people in the corp. Since that time our paths have crossed many times and each time I felt that I was being reunited with a long time family member. You were both so special to me. Please accept our sincere condolences at this sad time and know that you are in our thoughts and prayers today and in the days and weeks ahead. Love to you and your family, Winnie (Snook) and Wayne

Hi Allan,
I was really sorry to hear about your dad. He always had a smile that was so calming and bright. My dad would bring me to church ( way back in the 70 "s ) in St. John's and your dad would greet us at the citadel door as we entered and put his hand on my head gently and smile.
Kind warm memories like that you don't forget ....never.
I lost my dad in 1999 ...he was 78.
They never really leave us Al....trust me......they're always around and sometimes they are even inside of us.
Please take care
